CAW Engineer Wins Pumpkin Carving Competition

Last week, Cambridge Atomworks had the pleasure of joining in a Pumpkin Carving and Decorating Competition to celebrate Halloween, hosted by Mantle, the office space managers at 95 Regent Street where Cambridge Atomworks is based. The competition encouraged everyone in the Mantle building to enter their pumpkin carving skills into the draw for a chance to win before the 31st October. This week, we were thrilled to learn that James Leybourn, Design Engineering Lead at Cambridge Atomworks, won the competition with his incredible steam train pumpkin carving!

James’ inspiration for carving the impressive steam train was his son, who loves trains, and specially requested for one to be carved into his Halloween pumpkin, which James and his son actually grew from a seed. Upon seeing James’ pumpkin and crowning it the winner of the competition, Georgia Butler, Mantle Centre Manager, said: “Everyone’s pumpkins looked amazing this year, but James’ steam train carving was just next level! You could tell a lot of effort and creativity went into it. I was especially impressed when I heard that the pumpkin was home-grown, serious dedication. It’s definitely set the bar high and will no doubt inspire everyone’s creations for next year!”

However, James wasn’t the only one from Cambridge Atomworks to embrace the Halloween spirit, as plenty of other team members got stuck into some pumpkin carving.

Thomas Chalklen, Materials Engineer, carved a storm trooper.

Laura Hatch, Business Administrator, carved a classic Jack-o'-lantern.
