Materials Engineer

Dr Thomas Chalklen completed his BA, MSc and PhD in Materials Science at the University of Cambridge, with research interests in energy harvesting, sensors and controlling the mechanical properties of a surface through topology. A further post-doctoral research project looking at cohesion in granular flow followed. Prior to joining Cambridge Atomworks, Thomas led materials development into carbon neutral concrete at Biozeroc, using alternative binders to replace cement in an effort to decarbonize the construction industry. An experienced experimental scientist, Thomas’s current research focusses on compatibility and corrosion rates in the proposed coolant to guarantee a long operational lifespan.
