Summer Interns 2026
Sol Inglis
Sol is a current third-year Physics student studying as part of the Natural Sciences course at the University of Cambridge.
Whilst interning at Cambridge Atomworks over the summer, he has been working as part of the Thermal Hydraulics team investigating thermal performance of reactor safety systems. As well as helping create theoretical models, he has also gained valuable experience working in the lab both constructing and operating test rigs to validate computer based simulations.
Rachel Wald
Rachel is a third-year Engineering student at the University of Cambridge. She is interning at Cambridge Atomworks this summer, contributing towards fuel pin support mechanisms and heating architectures within the Engineering and Design team. So far, she has really enjoyed gaining insight into reactor operational requirements across the plant lifetime, as well as system and component integration and the engineering development process more broadly.
Alex Hempel
Alex is a current third-year physics student studying for an MSci at the University of Cambridge.
At Cambridge Atomworks, he is focusing on neutronics and software benchmarking for critical and sub-critical core configurations. Over the course of the internship so far, he has gained experience in the nuclear design process as well as an appreciation of fuel and R&D in the field.
