Summer Interns 2026
Sol Inglis
Sol is a Physics student studying as part of the Natural Sciences course at the University of Cambridge.
Whilst interning at Cambridge Atomworks over the summer, he worked as part of the Thermal Hydraulics team investigating thermal performance of reactor safety systems. As well as helping create theoretical models, he also gained valuable experience working in the lab both constructing and operating test rigs to validate computer based simulations.
Rachel Wald
Rachel is an Engineering student at the University of Cambridge. She interned at Cambridge Atomworks over the summer, contributing towards fuel pin support mechanisms and heating architectures within the Engineering and Design team.
She really enjoyed gaining insight into reactor operational requirements across the plant lifetime, as well as system and component integration and the engineering development process more broadly.
Alex Hempel
Alex is a Physics student studying for an MSci at the University of Cambridge.
At Cambridge Atomworks, he focused on neutronics and software benchmarking for critical and sub-critical core configurations. Over the course of the internship, he gained experience in the nuclear design process as well as an appreciation of fuel and R&D in the field.
