Andy is an expert in fluid flow and heat transfer in complex multiphase processes, and he brings a combination of experimental and theoretical modelling approaches to explore and quantify these phenomena.

He has developed experimental test rigs and accompanying models to help build understanding of the air cooling processes on the exterior of the ODIN micro-reactor, and of the high temperature convective transport of heat within the micro-reactor under a range of scenarios. These studies build on his wide experience of modelling industrial flows, especially in the energy sector and often involving multiphase transport of heat and flow.

He has published his research on multiphase flows, especially involving natural convection, widely, with over 240 papers in the peer reviewed literature. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society, and also heads up the Institute for Energy and Environmental Flows in the University of Cambridge.
