Head of Regulatory Engagement

Dr Andrew Steer is a nuclear safety case and regulatory engagement expert with over 18 years of experience in the nuclear industry. Andrew led the strategy, scope and, development of the safety, environment, and security cases for the advanced nuclear molten salt FLEX reactor, engaging with regulators and supporting safety informed design development as part of the senior leadership team. Previously, Andrew was a safety case lead for the HPR1000 generic design assessment (GDA) in the UK which achieved a design acceptance confirmation in 2022. Andrew has provided safety case support to a range of clients across the UK nuclear sector, specialising in Internal and External Hazard analysis and safety case strategy development.

Andrew is experienced in leading teams in regulatory engagement, ensuring regulatory expectations are met, and the reactor design integrity with the safety case is maintained to meet its design objectives. Andrew has a PhD in nuclear structure physics from the University of York.
